Following our Scart workshop at Carmel with Sil, we have many new drawing for purpose techniques to try. The progression of these ideas and techniques seems very natural, turning shape into wire or texture into metal plates. Drawing and recording can be evidenced through almost any materials, here are a few reminders...

Use wire to record shape- different wire combinations work well.

Use ink and bleach to record shadow and highlights.

Create a record of pattern or shape with objects dipped in bleach.
Fineliner can build intricate detail.
Add water to fineliner to record fluid or soft textures.
Use layers of card, paint and string to evidence tactile starting points.
Traditional pencil HB/2B
A mixture of different colours bleed well together- added pen increases depth.

Stitch using a sewing machine- over acetate/ paper or fabric.
Layer mixed media- bleach stains, ink and fabric can be stitched freehand.

Use found objects to help create a record of shape.
Hand sew into patches of fabric or paper to evidence natural textures.
Layer fabrics and burn away surfaces or edges to reveal what is hidden beneath.

Use sheet metals and found objects as tools to create a 3D surface.

Photocopies of the metal sheet can be used to produce sculptural pieces.
